S4 Stopped Powering On
Problem: My device just stopped powering on all of a sudden. Went to carrier store and the guy didn’t even spend 2 minutes with and just told me I needed a new phone because it’s the usb that’s probably broken. I just got a new usb port and installed it but still won’t come on. With the new and old port the phone will get warm but nothing else.
Solution: When the phone does not turn on the first thing that you should do is to check the battery and the charger. In this case you should verify if the charger is working properly by checking it on another device. If possible you should try to use a different charger and charging cable on your phone. A bad battery can also cause this type of issue. If this is the case I suggest you try to use a new battery on your phone. Charge the new battery and see if you get any response from your device.
Once you have eliminated the battery and charger it’s time to troubleshoot the phone. Since the device does not turn on try discharging the phone first by taking out the battery and microSD card (if you have one attached) then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then check if the phone turns on.
If the issue persists then bring your phone to an authorized service center and have the power button checked. It’s also possible that the power IC of the phone could already be defective.
S4 Died And Will Not Charge
Problem: Phone died and wouldn’t charge. Assumed problem was in the charging port. The battery and charger are fine because they work with another S4 in the house. Saw a small copper tab sticking out from the center of the charging port. Assumed it was a charging prong and tried pushing it flat against the charging tab. Then thought that a prong from the charging cable became lodged some how. Of course by moving it back and forth it broke free. Figured I needed a new charging port. I charged the battery in another phone. After reinstalling the battery the phone would not turn on. I am sure I had the battery out when I was poking around in the port. Prior to all this the phone had shut off and I thought it was due to a dead battery. Any ideas?
Solution: You definitely must have the charging port checked as there may be some metal strips inside that are having a contact with each other. If these metal strips are designed to stay apart then the device could short circuit and not turn on at all.
Since you were able to charge the battery on a different phone then it is safe to say that the battery is working properly. If this is the case then try taking out the battery first then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. Reinsert the battery then turn on your phone. If it still does not turn on then the issue could be caused by a defective power button, an issue with the charging port, or a defective power IC. Since there is a chance that this is already a hardware related problem I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center.
S4 Switched Off While On Call
Problem: Hello, I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 that yesterday suddenly switched itself off while I was calling. Then constantly tried to start it, but it went in a never ending loop. So I took out the battery and when I reinserted the battery it all started again. Do you have any suggestions on what is causing this to occur? I have tried to get into the download mode and recovery mode, but that does not work too. The download mode screen appears, but I cannot press the volume up button and then after a few seconds it automatically goes into the loop. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Solution: One of the main reasons why the phone goes into a restart loop is due to some issues with the phone software. It could be caused by some form of corrupt data in the device or
It could be caused by a glitch in the phone software.
What you will want to do first in cases such as this is to remove the battery and microSD card of your phone. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Once this is done reinsert just the battery then turn on your phone.
If the issue remains then check if this is caused by a battery problem by connecting your phone to its wall charger then try turning it on. If it turns on normally the it’s time to replace the battery.
Try to access the phone’s recovery mode. If you can enter this mode then I suggest you wipe the cache partition of your phone first. This will delete the temporary data of your device. If this does not work then proceed with a factory reset in this mode. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding.
S4 Does Not Turn On
Problem: I left my phone in the car for a few weeks, and now when I plug it in the red charge light comes on, but the screen stays completely black. Then when I push the power button it will vibrate. But that’s all. What should I do?
Solution: Try taking out the phone battery then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This process discharges the phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then let it charge for at least 20 minutes using a wall charger. Turn on your phone. If it still does not turn on then consider getting a new battery.
S4 Boots Then Turns Off
Problem: Hi, Really hope you’ll be able to help me with this issue. I’ve scoured the internet for help, but been unsuccessful so far. Through no apparent fault of my own, my S4 has (once again) begun to be boot for like three seconds, then turn off and be completely unresponsive until I remove the battery and try again. Video of this can be seen here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3LfYDu619myQXJxTXNGQlJkb1U/view?usp=sharing. It has done this once before, where I left it for a few days and then managed to keep it alive for long enough to do a hard reset. I’ve tried connecting it to a computer and reach it through Kies, but Kies won’t recognize the phone, as if it weren’t there. Hope you’ll be able to help me, otherwise I’ll probably resort to hitting it with a sledgehammer.
Solution: It’s possible that this could be a software related issue. Take out the battery and the microSD card ( if your phone has one attached). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then try to turn on your phone. If the issue still occurs try connecting the phone to its wall charger and see if it still turns off. If it doesn’t then this could be a battery related problem. Try using a different battery if this is the case.
You should also try to check if you can start your phone in recovery mode. From here I suggest you do a factory reset. Take note that your phone data will be deleted in this process so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding with this procedure.
